You may know that this world-famous center is located in Manhattan, between 62nd and 65th Streets and Columbus and Amsterdam Avenues. The Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts is based here, and offers more than 400 performances each year, as well as the Live from Lincoln Center telecasts.
You probably don’t know that 11 other organizations are housed in Lincoln Center as well, including the Chamber Music Society, the Film Society, the Julliard School, the Metropolitan Opera, the New York City Ballet, the New York City Opera, and the New York Philharmonic. It is also the home of Broadway Theater, the Vivian Beaumont, and Off-Broadway Theater, the Mitzi E. Newhouse. The complex occupies 16 acres, and contains more than 20 separate performance venues. Groundbreaking ceremonies for the Center in 1959 included President Dwight Eisenhower, and John D. Rockefeller III, who raised more than half of the money needed for construction, later became it’s inaugural president, and then chairman.
Tip: It’s worth it just to stroll around the campus and buildings, even if you’re not into opera, ballet, or symphony. While you’re there, take in a Broadway (http://www.lct.org/aboutBeaumont.htm) or Off-Broadway (http://www.lct.org/aboutNewhouse.htm) show. Live! With Regis and Kelly is broadcast from nearby 7 Lincoln Square, so you could consider that as well. However, you should submit your ticket request at least 6-8 weeks in advance (http://bventertainment.go.com/tv/buenavista/regisandkelly/get_tickets.html).
