Exploring the United Nations

Another walking adventure in the card set City Walks New York is a tour of the United Nations, starting at First Avenue and 42nd Street and walking along the plaza up to 47th Street; the plaza is lined with flags of the 189 member nations of the UN.  Visit the three main buildings on the 18-acre complex: the Secretariat, the unusually-shaped General Assembly, and the Dag Hammarskjöld Library, named for the second UN Secretary General who was killed in a plane crash in 1961.  Tours of the complex are offered many times daily.

Like the others, the map on the reverse shows other attractions, restaurants, and even nearby subway stations, in the event that you’ve got more time to spend.  It’s a great but sobering way to remember…
