The Highest-Grossing Movie Franchises

I recently read a listing of the highest-grossing movie franchises, based upon box office receipts in the United States.  Here are the top 10, with number of movies and total US receipts in billions of dollars:

  1. Star Wars, 8, $2.23
  2. Harry Potter, 7, $1.94
  3. James Bond, 23, $1.61
  4. Batman, 8, $1.47
  5. Shrek, 4, $1.27
  6. Spider-Man, 3, $1.11
  7. Pirates of the Caribbean, 3, $1.04
  8. Lord of the Rings, 3, $1.03
  9. Star Trek, 11, $1.01
  10. Indiana Jones, 4, $0.94

Not many surprises here, at least for me.  But the list takes on a different look when based on total worldwide box receipts.  I’ll be back with that list in a couple of days…
