The Most Successful Movie Franchises

Well, I finally have found another rating system for movie franchises, other than unadjusted box office receipts.  Basically, the ranking is based upon two things: total box office receipts adjusted for inflation and each film’s critical success, based on the Rotten Tomatoes critic scores.  And the winners are:

  1. Indiana Jones – Box Office Rank 4/Critic Rank 3
  2. Toy Story – 8/1
  3. Spider-Man – 2/7
  4. Star Wars – 1/8
  5. Lord of the Rings – 6/6
  6. The Godfather – 11/2
  7. Harry Potter – 10/5
  8. Shrek – 7/16
  9. Back to the Future – 15/9
  10. Jurassic Park – 3/25

A couple of things I’d like to note.  First, this ranking was done prior to the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, so that would change its position.  And second, James Bond came in at number 18 on the list, with 30/14.  You can read more at
