A Time to Weep, and a Time to Laugh

You may recognize those words from the song Turn, Turn, Turn by The Byrds (and written by Pete Seeger), and earlier from the Book of Ecclesiastes in The Bible; in fact, I spoke those words at the memorial service for my father in 1998.  And it’s so true at this time of year, when the list of celebrities who passed away during the year is published.  Among those in 2010 are Blake Edwards, Bob Feller, Elizabeth Edwards, “Dandy” Don Meredith, Leslie (Don’t call me Shirley) Nielsen, Jill Clayburgh, Sparky Anderson, Dino De Laurentiis, Bob Guccione, Patricia Neal, Peter (Have you ever seen a grown man naked) Graves, Corey Haim, Teddy Pendergrass, J.D. Salinger, Dixie Carter, Lynn Redgrave, Lena Horne, George “The Boss” Steinbrenner, Tom Bosley, Barbara Billingsley, Tony Curtis (above, in my favorite movie The Great Race), Eddie Fisher, Art Linkletter, Dennis Hopper, John Wooden, Jimmy Dean, Manute Bol, Rue McClanahan, Gary Coleman, John Forsythe, and Robert Culp.  For me, the ones I don’t have around any more include my parents Lyman and Alice, my father-in-law Ray, and my brother-in-law Jim and his wife Edna.  But we did get a blessing last year with our grandson Evan, who is doing great – he’s walking, almost talking English, and he really seems to enjoy seeing me now.  So, remember to be thankful for those we do have close to us…

Feel free to leave a comment, and please come back often – I write and post every day!  And if you like what I have to say and how I say it, you’ll probably enjoy my novels as well.  They’re listed below, and you can read more about them on my website, http://www.randolphmase.com.  In the near future (in the next week, I hope!), I’ll have excerpts of my books that you can read, accessible on my site.  You can get a sneak preview at http://randymase.com – designed and built by my son Don.  Please check it out!

And to view updated blogs in real-time, go to http://alphainventions.com or http://blogiche.com – they’re both great sites!
