America’s Best Restaurants

A recent issue of Men’s Health magazine featured a listing of America’s Best & Worst Restaurants 2011 in 9 categories, based on the health value of meals served at various restaurant chains.  I’ll start with the good news today – the best restaurants.  You’ll see the worst later this week…

  1. Seafood – Red Lobster, with a wide variety of fish that is usually broiled, blackened, or wood-fire grilled
  2. Sandwich – Subway, with the leanest sandwiches around
  3. Chicken – Chick-fil-A, with every item on the menu under 600 calories
  4. Pizza – Domino’s, with more vegetable topping offerings than anyone
  5. Italian – Romano’s Macaroni Grill, which has worked successfully for the past 3 years to decrease the calories in their meals
  6. Breakfast – Bob Evans, if you stick to the basic breakfast elements
  7. Mexican – Chipotle (one of the favorites of our family), where you design your own meal
  8. Chinese – Panda Express, with many entrees under 300 calories
  9. Burger – Wendy’s, with a good selection of healthy sides.
