The Fifth Avenue Falcons

       That sounds like a sports team, doesn’t it?  But it’s not.  It’s actually a pair of birds who have left Central Park to live in an Upper East Side housing cooperative on Fifth Avenue at 74th Street.  Named Pale Male because of his lighter coloring, the male moved to the Upper East Side (“Moving on up, to the East Side” – remember The Jeffersons?) with his new mate Lola in 2002, and the 20-year-old male hawk is reported to have sired 26 chicks over the years…not bad!  Unfortunately, Lola disappeared last month, and Pale Male has been seen courting another hen.  NYPD is investigating the mysterious disappearance and any possible motives Pale Male may have had…
