Some New Words for Your Vocabulary

It seems that, at least here in America, we are constantly reinventing the language.  In fact, Rosetta Stone, which sells many different language courses, offers both a UK English course and a US English course; perhaps one reason for that is our persistent need to add words to the language.  I recently read a list of 50 new words for 2010 (in other words, they’ve been added to most English dictionaries).  The meaning of some them are obvious, such as automagically, catastrophize, hater, and microblog.  But many of the meanings are more elusive; here are some of them:

  • bargainous (adj.)
  • buzzkill (n.)
  • cheeseball (adj.)
  • flash mob (n.)
  • homeshoring (n.)
  • locavore (n.)
  • matchy-matchy (adj.)
  • meme (n.)
  • paywall (n.)
  • pimp (v.)
  • sheeple (n.)
  • truthiness (n.)

I was able to successfully guess a few of them; now it’s your turn.  How many do you know?  Stay tuned; I’ll post the “accepted definitions” in a few days…

Feel free to leave a comment, and please come back often – I write and post every day!  And if you like what I have to say and how I say it, you’ll probably enjoy my novels as well.  They’re listed below, and you can read more about them on my improved website, designed and built by my son Don, http://www.randolphmase.com.  On my site, you’ll also find excerpts of my books that you can read – please check it out!

  1. ROMANCE NINJA! Says:

Among the best features which are added in inside
edition 3 is the programmed improvements. Which
means totally free heavy steam codes are current
on auto-pilot and also whenever you run this
course. While these rules are usually dynamically being included in
addition to decrypted, actually that one could
receive one particular program code and when you
restart this course right after couple of minutes
the actual databases really should refresh together with completely new requirements.
This is good due to the fact ahead of model 3. 0 people must acquire new model with
the hack daily which included new codes.
