Cop Cot in Central Park

When we were in Central Park a couple of weeks ago and my son first told me about Cop Cot, I thought he was saying “crock pot,” and I wasn’t sure what we’d encounter when we got there.  When we did arrive at the base of it, I then heard what he was really saying.  .

If you enter Central Park through the Artists’ Gate from Central Park South, in a few minutes you’ll see a small path up a rocky hill on your left.  At the top sits a wooden shelter called Cop Cot, which is Scottish for “cottage on top of the hill.”  It’s a fairly large open air structure with benches and surrounded by locust trees and with vines generously covering the walls and roof.

So what’s so special about Cop Cot?  Because of its elevation, it provides great views of the Park and the high rise buildings along Central Park South and Central Park West.  It’s quiet, so that makes it a great place to relax and read, sleep, or just do nothing.  But most importantly, it’s going to be the site where our son Don and his fiancée Robin will be married in September!  Congrats to both of you – we can’t wait!

Feel free to leave a comment, and please come back often – I write and post every day!  And if you like what I have to say and how I say it, you’ll probably enjoy my novels as well.  They’re listed below, and you can read more about them on my improved website, designed and built by my son Don, http://www.randolphmase.com.  On my site, you’ll also find excerpts of my books that you can read – please check it out!

Hi Ralph I hope your sons wedding day was wonderful! I am coming to New York for the very first time from England with my husband and daughter in September 2012, we are having our 15th wedding anniversary and I have chosen Cop Cot for the renewal of our wedding vows. Hence, hoping that you dont mind me asking how was it and is it as serene and pretty as it looks. By the way I am an avid reader so will definately check out your books. Thanks in advance for your reply. Regards Jacqui

Hi, Jacqui – thanks for your comment! Cop Cot was just as serene and beautiful as it looks in photos, if not more so – in spite of the fact that it’s only a few hundred feet from bustling 59th Street! I’m sure you’ll enjoy your visit. By the way, Cop Cot is so popular that you’ll need to reserve it in advance; you can get more information at http://www.centralpark.com/guide/weddings/ceremonies.html. And if you’d like some ideas for things to do on your first visit, let me know – and enjoy your time here!
