Footing the Bill for the New World Trade Center

Construction of the new World Trade Center, which many people are applauding as demonstrating America’s resiliency and determination, are very high.  Now the  Port Authority of  New York and New Jersey is considering toll increases to fund the construction.

Specifically, they are proposing to increase the cost of entering the City (via theGeorgeWashingtonBridge, Lincoln Tunnel, and Holland Tunnel) from the current $8 to $17 over the next 3 years, a 113% increase!  And the fare forPATHsubway trains under theHudson Riverwould increase from $1.75 to $2.75, a 57% increase.  I know the money for construction has to come from somewhere, but is penalizing people who work in, pass through, live in, or visit New York City they way to go?

       What do you think?
