The Top US Travel Destinations

Lonely Planet, which publishes guides to various countries and cultures around the world (I used a copy when I lived in Korea, and it was very helpful), also publishes a list of the top destinations in theUnited States.  This year’s list consists of (in random order):

  • Boulder, Colorado
  • Chicago
  • California Gold Country
  • US Virgin Islands
  • Cincinnati, Ohio
  • Yellowstone National Park
  • Hawai’i: The Big Island
  • Culebra, Puerto Rico
  • Four Corners Region, Southwest USA
  • Hudson River Valley, New York

I’ve personally visited six of them already, and I live in the last, the Hudson River Valley (which, by the way, was number 2 on their list, behind only the US Virgin Islands!).  They based their selection of the Hudson River Valley primarily on a getaway cabin complex near Woodstock, founded by singer Kate Pierson of the B-52s.  But they also mention its proximity to New York City, leafy drives, wineries, and food options.  But they missed the views!  Whether its looking up or down the river from the Walkway on the Hudson or admiring the Manhattan skyline from the Tappan Zee Bridge or looking up the Hudson from Cold Spring (above), the views can really be spectacular!  The Hudson RiverValley is certainly worth a visit…

Feel free to leave a comment, and please come back often – I write and post every day!  And if you like what I have to say and how I say it, you’ll probably enjoy my novels as well.  They’re listed below, and you can read more about them on my improved website, designed and built by my son Don, http://www.randolphmase.com.  On my site, you’ll also find excerpts of my books that you can read – please check it out!
