Another Take on Valentine’s Day

Okay, so we all know that Valentine’s Day is a time of cards and candy and flowers and jewelry.  But it also has a sordid side to it, and I’ve heard a couple of things that make me say that.

The first is that the day before Valentine’s Day is popularly known as ‘Mistress Day,’ as many philanderers use that day to keep their mistresses happy; doing it the day after Valentine’s Day may come across as an afterthought.  Remember New York Governor Spitzer?  That happened onFebruary 13, 2008.  Okay, that makes sense.  But what do they call it if the roles are reversed?  Master’s Day?

The other thing I heard is that Valentine’s Day is the busiest day of the year for private investigators, who are hired to track the affairs (curious choice of words here) of a client’s spouse or partner.  Hmmm…maybe that’s another story for Matthew Hogan in my mysteries – Death on Valentine’s Day?
