Are You a Walker?

If you are, then you’ll be pretty excited about a plan to create a six-block pedestrian walkway in midtown Manhattan.  That’s right – the Transporation Department will connect the current public plazas between Sixth and Seventh Avenues between 51st and 57th Streets to create a quarter-mile walkway that promises to be a little more pleasant than pedestrian and traffic rush hours on the two avenues.

And what about traffic on the cross streets?  Pedestrian crossings will be marked, along with stop or yield signs and speed bumps on the streets.  Personally, I think it’s a great idea, a concept similar to both the Times Square Pedestrian Mall and the High Line.  And locals already have a name for it: Sixth-and-a-Half Avenue.  Wait a minute – would that be SaHA?
