The Enterprise Wows New York City!

       Yesterday, the Space Shuttle Enterprise was transported from Washington, DC (where it had been housed at the Smithsonian) to New York’s JFK Airport, and it was an unusual ride:  the shuttle was riding piggyback on top of a modified 747 jet.  Before landing, it made passes by some New York landmarks including the Statue of Liberty and the Intrepid Sea, Air, and Space Museum on the west side of Manhattan. 

       In early June the shuttle will be placed on a barge and brought up to the Intrepid, which will be its final resting place.  The display at the Intrepid is scheduled to be opened to the public in mid-July.  You can see part of the flight at
