Do You Want to Bike Around the City?

If you do, then Citi Bike may be the program for you.  The bikeshare program sponsored by Citigroup (thus the program’s name) will begin in July.  10,000 blue bicycles will be placed in about 600 bike-sharing stations throughout the City, with some locations receiving more than others.  For example, 137 of the stations will be located along Eighth Avenue between 41st and 42nd Streets.

Here’s how it will work:  you can pay $95 for an annual membership, and then use a bike for up to 45 minutes a day with no additional charges.  Or you can use the ala carte menu, which costs $9.95 a day or $25 a week, and you can ride up to 30 minutes a day with no additional charges.  But watch your time; overtime charges are $4 for 6 minutes, $13 for 90 minutes, $25 for 120 minutes, and then an extra $13 for each 30 minutes after that.  So don’t have a flat tire, and make sure you return the bike; the charge for a bike not returned is $1,000.  With all that, enjoy your biking experience…
