You Don’t Really Want This Job, Do You?

I’ve mentioned a couple of times the guy who, after receiving a job offer, proceeded to Tweet about the job and company – in a negative manner.  Unfortunately for him, the hiring HR Manager read the Tweet and quickly rescinded the offer.  And I think most of us have heard of the most common interview mishaps including dressing inappropriately, talking negatively about your current employer, and appearing disinterested.

Now I read the results of a CareerBuilder/Harris Interactive survey of hiring and HR Managers about the biggest blunder they’ve seen in interviews.  Check these out:

  • Candidate asked, “What company is this again?”
  • Candidate wore a Boy Scout uniform and never told interviewers why
  • Candidate cited promptness as a strength, after showing up 10 minutes late for the interview
  • Candidate took off his shoes during the interview
  • Candidate asked for a sip of the interviewer’s coffee.
