Lady Liberty Reopens

Statue of Liberty 2

The Statue of Liberty, closed after Superstorm Sandy hit last October, was reopened on, quite appropriately, Independence Day.

Although Lady Liberty was unharmed, Sandy caused a lot of damage on Liberty Island, including broken railings, torn up docks, destroyed electrical systems, and flooded buildings.  But it’s now open to visitors again, including limited access to the crown.  Get more information for visiting at http://www.nps.gov/stli/index.htm.  And you can watch a short news report about the reopening at http://articles.washingtonpost.com/2013-07-04/politics/40369719_1_liberty-island-lady-liberty-new-york-harbor.  Enjoy!
