Celebrating Flag Day!

June 14, 2019

I would guess that many of us do not know that today is Flag Day here in the United States.  Established by Congress in 1949, it commemorates the adoption of our national flag by the Second Continental Congress on this date in 1777.  And it’s an opportunity to show our patriotism – if you have an American flag and the weather permits, please display it for all to see.  And if you don’t have a flag, please consider buying one.

Questions to How Well Do You Know Brooklyn?

June 5, 2019

Here are the questions to the Jeopardy! answers in the category “Brooklyn” I posted a couple of weeks ago:

  1. In 2012 this NBA franchise relocated from New Jersey to Brooklyn. – Who are the Nets?
  2. North Central Brooklyn’s Bed-Stuy, short for this, features the Billie Holiday Theatre. – What is Bedford-Stuyvesant?
  3. Joey Chestnut said, “I found a vicious rhythm” after downing 74 hot dogs on July 4, 2018 in this Brooklyn neighborhood. – What is Coney Island?
  4. On June 19, 1915 this battleship that’s now a memorial in Pearl Harbor was christened in the Brooklyn Navy Yard. – What is the USS Arizona?
  5. The edifice built as Brooklyn City Hall is now called this, reflecting Brooklyn’s status within New York City. – What is Borough Hall?

Born in Brooklyn and living most of my life in New York, I got all of them correct.  How did you do?
